Hi. I’m Carly and I am the artist, I never thought of myself as an “artist” really, I first discovered reborn dolls back in 2003/04 on an auction site and I was mesmerised, I tried making a few but it didn’t go too well, back then it was mostly Berenger dolls, we didn’t have the range of kits available like today, the vinyl was often very hard and you would have to sand out text imprints on the neck, rooting was also incredibly difficult, I think my early dolls probably looked more like chucky then real babies!
It wasn’t until I had my eldest child that I started painting again, even when I look back at these dolls I realise the improvements I have made to get to the point I am at today and I am always striving to improve with every baby I make. It has been a journey that’s for sure, with many mistakes along the way and invaluable lessons but I am incredibly proud to say that I have had my babies adopted all over the world and I have had the ultimate honour of completing a prototype reborn doll.
In the time from starting to create these dolls to now I have completed a law degree, become a qualified florist and have three children. Painting is a way to relax and decompress for me and it is such a magical experience bringing life into what starts as a total blank canvas. Sadly, when I had my last child I tragically lost my brother and contracted meningitis at the same time, it was probably the most difficult time of my life and it certainly changed my perspective on many things. I am gradually finding time again to paint and pour myself into creating the best art I am capable of, I have always been incredibly passionate about painting reborns and it is always my aim to make owning one of my babies the most magical experience I possibly can for the new mummy or collector.
